Time for some honesty: I did not like shawls before making this! I have only knit one before and I never wore it. I wanted to design a shawl that might change my mind about them, and I think this did the trick! This shawl is light, fun and has a texture that I adore, which was originally developed for the Eyelet Stripe Hoodie. Since I don’t love shawls, I also wanted to make it a tad smaller than a standard shawl size so that I can wear it more like a scarf and enjoy it that way.

The Eyelet Stripe shawl is knit from the top-down, increasing along the edges and the center to create a triangular shape. It uses knit, purl and beginner lace techniques combined to create a textured stripe. The cast-off edge is finished off with an i-cord bind-off and an applied i-cord edge to the remaining raw edge. It gives a polished and unique look! This shawl can either be made with or without the added contrast color that you see in my sample. The pattern is written to include the MC and CC1 color changes, but you can continue with your MC if you do not wish to use multiple colors.

ONE SIZE:

This shawl measures 28" (71 cm) from the cast on edge to the bind off edge and 56" (142 cm) along the wingspan.

DIFFICULTY: ADVANCED BEGINNER
You will need to know how to cast on, knit, purl, M1L, M1R, Backwards loop cast on, knit stitch cast on, i-cord bind off.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
  • Size US 5/3.75mm 36” circular needles
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors
  • 4 Stitch Markers
